Eye yoga: simple exercises to improve your eyesight

Eye yoga, Changes in lifestyles over the centuries have caused a lot of changes in our bodies. The industrial age, for example, made men less robust because they no longer perform as many physical tasks, circadian rhythms have changed markedly with the number of lights in cities. The eyes have become much less efficient due to the fact that we spend too much time observing objects at a short distance (screens, telephone, tablet, etc.), unlike in previous centuries when men spent their time in open spaces (mountains, seas, fields, etc.), to this is added the overexposure to blue light and the lack of medical follow-up, all these factors make eye fatigue a real modern health problem.

Other than medical prescriptions, food supplements (vitamin A for example), glasses or filters, there is a way to relieve and improve your vision, this means is “eye yoga”.

Eye yoga

This yoga consists of a series of eye exercises aimed at strengthening the capacities and reducing the fatigue of the eyes, it is the ophthalmologist William Bates who developed a series of exercises to relax and irrigate them, the “Bates method” stipulates that part of the eye disorders are due to the fixity of the gaze on the same lens and the lack of blinking, which causes a lack of irrigation and tearing, it is moreover the main cause of the “syndrome of dry eye ”which affects more and more people because of screens and mobile phones.

Here is a list of exercises that are simple, fast, and doable any time of the day:

  • Blink: This lubricates and cleans the eye, the blinking occurs spontaneously around every 7 seconds but this frequency decreases markedly when fixing a device, do it several times quickly.
  • Alternating near-far: Put an object about twenty centimeters from your eyes and fix it then look at another object more distant, return to the initial object and repeat this movement several times gently, this will accustom your eyes to alternate between near and far vision.
  • Draw shapes: Imagine shapes that go from floor to ceiling and try to outline them with the eyes without moving your head, this exercise will work your oculomotor muscles.
  • Simply rest your eyes by meditating and breathing deeply, eyes deteriorate rapidly if the rest phase (sleep, inactivity) lasts less than their duration of use.

This set of exercises is effective and can help improve the health of your eyes!
